Surrounded by music all his life, Greg Elchert began studying the piano at the age of seven.  As a freshman at Marysville High School, he joined the award-winning marching band drumline, where he developed razor-sharp sight-reading skills and a keen sense of rhythm.  He later earned a spot in the combo backing the acclaimed Swingers Unlimited show choir, where he contributed to several Grand Championship-winning performances.

In 2008, Greg began studying with the notable Columbus jazz pianist and educator Mark Flugge, and he entered Capital University as a jazz studies major the following fall.As a student at Capital, he has studied piano with Flugge and Seymour Fink, jazz composition with Stan Smith, and electronic media with Chad Loughrige, Sean Beeson, and Russ Nagy.

In addition to the above-mentioned honors, Greg has served as rehearsal pianist for several prominent musical theater productions, and has collaborated with a number of Capital University students in styles ranging from Baroque to bebop.He has been a member of Capital’s MIDI Band and Vocal Jazz Ensemble, performing at such venues as the Columbus Convention Center and the Reynoldsburg Women’s Club (the latter in support of Vaughn Weister’s Famous Jazz Orchestra).

Finally, Greg boasts considerable knowledge of modern recording techniques, is fluent in Apple Logic Pro and Avid Pro Tools, and is an enthusiastic guitarist and Hammond B3 player in addition to being a pianist. In his spare time, Greg enjoys reading nonfiction, creative writing, and watching reruns of The Muppet Show.
